Shilpa Shetty recalls her first film offer when she was 17 years old, claiming that director Dilip Naik persuaded her father overnight.

Shilpa Shettys’ debut film was supposed to be a love story, with Ronit Roy and Rohit Roy. However the film got shelved and she ended up being cast for Baazigar. Recalling her ‘first tryst with the film industry,’ she said that her father initially didn’t allow her to act.

Shilpa Shetty will next be seen in Nikamma, which marks the Bollywood debut of Shirley Setia. The film also features Abhimanyu Dassani and is being directed by Sabbir Khan. It is releasing on June 17.

Actress Shilpa joined a beauty course after her class 10th exam. When she was in eleventh standard, she got a call to give a screen test for an ad. Dilip Naik Sir, assistant to Yash Chopra, asked her if she wanted to act.

Dilip Tahiliani wanted to cast Shilpa in his film Kiss Before Dying. The film was shelved and she took up Baazigar opposite Shah Rukh instead.
