Indian Navy Day is celebrated every day on the 4th of December. This marks the Operation Trident of the Indian Navy in 1971 when the Indian Navy attacked and completely destroyed the Pakistani Naval Headquarters at Karachi. This led to the formation of Bangladesh from East Pakistan. India began celebrating its Navy Day annually on 4th December to mark this operation.
This year the Navy Day celebrations took place at Cheria Kadamkud, Kerala. It is the village where various rehabilitation and humanitarian aid programs were started by the Indian Navy after the devastating flood of August 2018, in which the Navy rescued around 17000 people.
