India has told the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) that the Afghanistan situation continues to remain fragile and is of great concern to us as neighbours.
“The situation in Afghanistan continues to be very fragile. As its immediate neighbour and a friend to its people, the current situation is of direct concern to us,” said India’s Permanent Representative to UN, TS Tirumurti, during a debate at UNSC on Afghanistan.
Tirumurti further added, “Uncertainties abound about the future of the Afghan people, as well as about sustaining and building on the gains achieved over the last two decades. In this context, we reiterate the need for the voices of Afghan women to be heard.”
This comes at a time when the Taliban have announced a new government led by Taliban leaders that will rule Afghanistan. Several top ministers announced by the Taliban government are globally designated terrorists, including the Interior Minister.
