No matter which device you use to connect to the Internet, you need to be aware of scams at all times. They usually appear in the form of phishing emails, suspicious text, or Trojan-infected applications. Thankfully, if you stay vigilant, you can avoid most scams. But some are more difficult to avoid than others. For example, Samsung seems to host a series of applications on the Galaxy Store, which may eventually infect your phone with malware.
You may even install them on your Android now. Soon after Weinbach posted a tweet about the problematic app, Android Police started mining. The website found that the specific application in the tweet was a clone of an old movie pirated application called Showbox. Several were available on the Galaxy Store earlier this week, but I couldn’t find any on December 30. Samsung may have taken action after reports began to surface.
According to Android Police, Virustotal revealed that one of the applications triggered nearly 20 alerts about clicker Trojans, malware, and risky software. These applications also request permissions they don’t need, including access to the user’s contacts, call logs, and phone applications.
