A new study has shown that the new covid variant C.1.2, found in South Africa and many other countries globally, may be more transmissible, and the vaccine is not more effective against it.

Scientists from the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) and the KwaZulu-Natal Research Innovation and Sequencing Platform (KRISP) in South Africa said the variant was first detected in the country in May this year.

Scientists said that this Covid variant has been found till August 13 in China, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mauritius, the UK, New Zealand, Portugal, and Switzerland.
