Spotify has announced that it will launch its new Spotify HiFi tier by the end of 2021, but there’s still no sign of it. Notably, its rivals Apple Music and Amazon Music have rolled out some similar features. For the uninitiated, Spotify HiFi will offer CD-quality streaming and support for lossless audio. Last month, Spotify made comments suggesting that the HiFi feature had been delayed indefinitely.
Recently, at an investor and analyst conference in the fourth quarter of 2021, Spotify CEO Daneiel Ek revealed that the company does not yet have any timeline for this feature. According to him, many music-related features will be delayed due to licensing negotiations with partners. According to him, “A lot of the features that we talk about, especially music-related features, end up being licensed. So I can’t really announce anything specific other than to say we’re in constant dialogue with our partners to bring it to market. detail.”
Spotify says the HiFi feature is similar to Apple Music’s lossless audio feature, which launched last May. It allows users to listen to high-quality music without paying extra.
As it turns out, Spotify managed to become the world’s largest music streaming service in the second quarter of 2021, even if it didn’t deliver on its promises. According to a report, Spotify acquired 523.9 million paid subscribers globally in the second quarter of 2021.
Spotify has reportedly lost $4 billion in market value as several artists, including Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and Nils Lofgren, pulled their albums from the platform. This was done in protest of comedian Joe Rogan’s top podcast, “The Joe Rogan Experience,” which aired misinformation about the COVID-19 vaccine. The podcast apparently implies that healthy young people don’t need a COVID-19 vaccine. Hashtags including #DeleteSpotify and #CancelSpotify also trended on social media amid the protests.
