Stone Fruits: Their Health Benefits And Types

As the name suggests, Stone fruits are fruits with stone in the middle which is surrounded by fleshy edible parts. These are also known as drupes and they have a large stone-like seed in the centre. Depending on how easily the flesh of the fruit separates from the seed, they are considered clingstone or freestone. Stone fruits are of 14 different types. 

Here is the list of 14 different types of stone fruits:

  1. Peaches: They can either be clingstone or freestone 
  1. Plums: Juicy fruits with thin and smooth skin 
  1. Cherries: A spring fruit with sour, tart and sweet taste
  1. Nectarines: These look like apples and are very similar to peaches as well
  1. Apricots: These are tart flavoured small fruits
  1. Mangoes: Juicy tropical fruit
  1. Lychees: A fruit with pink skin, and inside are juicy transparent flesh with a sweet flavour
  1. Raspberries: These are stone fruits with a cluster of tiny stone fruits
  1. Blackberries: These are quite similar to raspberries but are black and have tiny pits inside
  1. Mulberries: These are elongated blackberries
  1. Olives: Olives are mostly used in pizza toppings and have a wide variety of flavours
  1. Coconut: A stone fruit with a large seed inside
  1. Dates: These are tropical fruits and come in different colours
  1. Hybrids: Plutos, Plumcots, Apriums 

Stone fruits have various health benefits as they contain vitamin A, C, E and minerals. They have loaded with antioxidants and hence boosts immunity lowers blood pressure and also boots production of collagen. You can add them to your diet while making smoothies, oatmeals, juices chia pudding etc.
