Indian bowlers took over Sri Lanka for just 109 in the first innings of the second Test held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Jaspreet Bumrah took two wickets and completed his eighth five-wicket haul in his 29th appearance for India only after the legendary Kapil Dev who had as many fifer among Indian seamers at the same point in his career.

At the end of the day 2 of the Day-Night match, Gavaskar praised Bumrah and described him as a “successful” bowler and added that the batters from opposite team will continue to fear him even if he goes through a rough patch in his career.

He praised him for his skill, ability, belief in himself and his desire to improve his performance everyday. He has improved after every match.  He will be the bowler that the opposition batsman will not want to face.

This was also Bumrah’s maiden five-wicket haul on home soil that took his overall wickets tally to 121. And his 5 for 24 in the first innings is now the best figures by an Indian seamer in Tests against Sri Lanka.

Gavaskar added that Bumrah’s ability to get batters out when they are set makes him even more threatening and this quality has made Bumrah even more threatening.
