Mumbai cricket’s Dronacharya coach Vasoo Paranjape passed away on Monday at the age of 82. He had given the name Sunny to former Indian veteran batsman Sunil Gavaskar.
Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar condoled his death. Vasoo Paranjape was associated with Indian cricket, especially Mumbai cricket, in various roles for six decades.
Vasoo Paranjape worked with the Mumbai team as a coach, selector, mentor, and advisor.
He scored 785 runs in 29 first-class matches, but these figures do not describe his greatness.
His knowledge of the game and the ability to work on the mindset of the players made him special.
He was the captain of the Dadar Union team from where stalwarts like Sunil Gavaskar and Dilip Vengsarkar emerged.
Vasoo Paranjape had told Rahul Dravid at the age of 14 that he would become a strong player in the future and everyone saw what Rahul Dravid did in his career.
He was known as the wall of Test cricket and as a captain apart from being a wicketkeeper, he proved that he could handle every responsibility.
