Suresh Raina “Lost Loyalty Of MS Dhoni”: Simon Doull On Former CSK Star Going Unsold In IPL Auction 2022

Suresh Reina will miss the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the first time since the start of the game in 2008. Raina was sacked by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the IPL auction and the two-day event in Bengaluru last week remained unsold. Raina has been a part of CSK since the inaugural edition of the tournament, except for two seasons (2016 and 2017) when the team was banned from the rich league. He has managed the now-defunct Gujarat Lions for two seasons.

Having skipped the 2020 tournament due to personal reasons, Suresh Raina has endured a difficult performance in the 2021 IPL and missed the final stages of the game with a knee injury.

Speaking of Raina not being sold at auction, former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull listed “two or three” reasons why CSK, along with other franchises, ignored the seasoned batsman at auction.

“It has two or three parts. He lost his loyalty in the UAE and we don’t need to go on (and talk about) why that happened. There’s enough speculation about that. He lost his team loyalty and he lost MS Dhoni’s loyalty . Once you do, you’re less likely to be welcomed back,” Doull said in an interaction with Cricbuzz.

Raina, who announced her international retirement on the same day as Dhoni, is the fourth-leading scorer in IPL history with 5,528 runs in 205 games.

Raina has also won four IPL titles, all with CSK, including last season.

On the other hand, CSK has rebuilt a strong team and managed to retain some tried and tested performers such as Dwayne Bravo, Deepak Chahar, Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu.

The four-time winner was led by MS Dhoni, who was blocked ahead of the auction alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad, Moeen Ali and Ravindra Jadeja.
