In a speech at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing to commemorate the 110th anniversary of the revolution that ended China’s last dynasty, Xi Jinping said that the biggest obstacle to China’s reunification is the “Taiwan independence” forces. On Saturday, Chinese President Xi Jinping vigorously promoted the reunification of Taiwan and the mainland amid increasing tensions with the estranged island, stating that the “Taiwan issue” will be resolved and “no outside interference will be allowed.” Prior to Xi Jinping’s comments, China had sent a record number of military aircraft to Taiwan’s air defense zone for four consecutive days to publicly display its force.

Taiwan considers itself a sovereign country-but China sees this autonomous island as a separate province. Beijing does not rule out the use of force to achieve reunification. In a speech at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing to commemorate the 110th anniversary of the revolution that ended China’s last dynasty, Xi Jinping said that the biggest obstacle to China’s reunification is the “Taiwan independence” forces. Xi Jinping said that the Taiwan issue stems from the weakness and chaos of the Chinese nation.

As national rejuvenation becomes a reality, the Taiwan issue will be resolved. “This is determined by the general trend of China’s history, and more importantly, it is the common will of all Chinese people,” Xi Jinping said. The 1911 revolution led by the nationalists led by Sun Yat-sen ended 2,132 years of imperial rule and 276 years of Manchu rule, heralding the beginning of the Chinese Republican era, which was followed by the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. In 1949, Taiwan broke away from the People’s Republic of China in a civil war with the Communist Party of China headed by Mao Zedong.
