Tamannaah has spoken out about her mistakes in the Hindi film industry, saying that she believed in Himmatwala as much as she did in SS Rajamouli’s Bahubali. In a new interview, Tamannnaah also stated that she is willing to say it if she dislikes her own film.
Tamannaah starred in Sajid Khan’s Himmatwala, which received mixed reviews upon its release in 2013. Himmatwala, a remake of the same-named 1983 film starring Jeetendra and Sridevi, also starred Ajay Devgn, Mahesh Manjrekar, and Paresh Rawal, among others.
“I feel like the best and worst decisions I have made in my film career, both I wasn’t really planning on doing and I didn’t know where that would go,” Tamannaah told Film Companion in an interview about her missteps in Bollywood and her success in the South Indian film industry. At that point, both seemed to be correct. I enjoy Himmatwala, and I am very receptive to criticism of my own work. I’ll admit it. It didn’t do what it was supposed to do. I was as convinced of it as I was of Baahubali.”
She continued, “But one thing about those movies is that I don’t believe I was prepared for either of them. But I learned on the job, and that’s the beauty of being an actor: you’re constantly discovering new things and evolving. You’re always changing; I’m not the same person who did Bahubali or Himmatwala.”
Tamannaah had told Bollywood Hungama in 2020 that the poor box office performance of Himmatwala was a “very difficult period” in her life. The film made less than Rs. 50 crore.
Tamannaah is part of the Indian delegation for the India Pavillion at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, led by Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur. “I am so excited about this, it’s such an honour, and I am really looking forward to it,” she said of her Cannes appearance to ANI.
Ricky Kej, Vani Tripathi, Prasoon Joshi, AR Rahman, R Madhavan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Pooja Hegde, Shekhar Kapur, and folk singer Mame Khan are among the Indian delegates at the 75th Cannes Film Festival.
