On Wednesday, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra announced that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) will open an office in the state to investigate terrorist activities. The anti-terror agency had no presence in the state until now.

Notably, state police arrested members of an extremist organisation a few months ago.

“The NIA is planning to open a branch in Madhya Pradesh in the near future.” “The agency is looking into the activities of terrorist organisations like Al-Soofa and Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in the state,” Mishra, who is also the spokesman for the state government, told reporters.

MP police arrested four alleged members of the banned JMB in Bhopal in March this year, seizing Jihadi literature and electronic devices from their possession.

In March, the Rajasthan police’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) arrested three suspected terrorists linked to the Ratlam-based Al-Soofa extremist group (in Madhya Pradesh).

In Nimbaheda, Chittorgarh, police discovered 12 kg of explosive material in their car (Rajasthan).
