Shah Rukh Khan’s Bandra home Mannat was trending on social media last month after fans noticed that the popular bungalow’s gate had a new name plate after years of neglect. The bungalow became a talking point after several fans shared photos and selfies from the location. The bungalow and its name plate have been the topic of conversation again in recent days. This time, however, it’s because fans have noticed that the name plate is missing, which has happened only a few times before.

Mannat is a popular tourist destination in Mumbai due to Shah Rukh Khan’s residence and its proximity to Bandra’s Band Stand. Every day, a large number of fans gather at the house’s gates to take photos with the Mannat nameplate. However, several fans have noticed that the nameplate is missing in the last two weeks. “I went to #Mannat today for the first time in my life and I saw there is no nameplate,” a fan tweeted from outside Mannat on May 12. “I was under the impression that there was some work in progress.” A tweet from around the same time included a photo of the house’s exterior with a similar caption. As of Thursday, the name plate was still missing.

Several fans have speculated that it was stolen, but others have pointed out that this is unlikely given Shah Rukh’s security situation. Some speculated that it was part of Gauri Khan’s interior (or exterior?) design experiment. “Aaj #Mannat se name plate gayab hai matlab full on experiment chal raha hai @gaurikhan (Today the name plate is absent from Mannat, which means experiment is underway),” read a tweet from May 11.

However, it appears that there is no mystery at all because the name plate is being repaired. “It was taken down for repair,” a source told Hindustan Times City in a report. It’s inside the house, in the garden, and will be returned once it’s been repaired.”

Over the years, the Mannat name plate has become a popular spot for fans to take selfies. Recent reports even claimed that the new name plate–which was installed in April–was worth around ₹25 lakh. These reports, however, could not be verified.

For the first time in almost three years, Shah Rukh Khan appeared to fans from the Mannat viewing balcony. Shah Rukh Khan greeted fans and even took selfies with them on the occasion of Eid. Until a few years ago, the actor would greet fans on the spot and would even bring his children with him. Since the pandemic, however, his appearances have been sporadic.
