Modi will hold a video conference with chief ministers to review the Covid-19 situation. The meeting comes amid a worrying uptick in daily Covid cases – this morning there were nearly 3,000 cases in 24 hours. Topics likely to be discussed are the status of the vaccination drive (with focus on precautionary doses) and states reporting high Covid incidents.

The prime minister has urged people to stay alert and follow Covid safety protocols. Daily cases have seen an increase in states and major cities. Mumbai reported over 100 in a day for the first time since March 1. Delhi reported over 1,200 on Tuesday – the fifth consecutive day with 1,000+ cases.

India has become the first country in the world to approve emergency use of two coronavirus vaccines for children under 12. The World Health Organisation (WHO) said the world was ‘blind’ to how the virus was spreading because of falling testing rates.
