Thousands are affected by the Assam floods, and Air Force choppers are assisting with rescue efforts

Over the last few days, Assam has been battered by heavy rain and flooding, with landslides reported in some areas and thousands of people affected. While heavy rains have caused landslides in 12 Assam villages, officials have said that three people, including a child from the Cachar district, have been missing since Sunday, according to news agency ANI. Three people, including a woman, were killed in landslides in Haflong, Dima Hasao district, about 250 kilometres from Guwahati, earlier on Saturday. Massive landslides and flooding also wreaked havoc on the state’s infrastructure, including railway tracks, bridges, and roads.

1. The flood situation in the Cachar district of the state remains dire. Three people, including a child, are missing, according to the state disaster management authority. According to ANI, the State Disaster Response Force, fire department, and emergency services are among those involved in the rescue efforts.

2. According to reports, the continuous rain has affected more than 57,000 people across seven Assam districts.

3. Floods have affected nearly 222 villages and 10321 people in 15 revenue circles. According to an ANI report, 44 hectares of cultivated land are still flooded. Thousands of animals have been affected by the flood in the state. In addition, more than 200 houses and settlements have been reported as damaged.

4. Due to massive landslides and flooding, several passengers were stranded at the Ditokcherra railway station. The Indian Air Force airlifted 119 passengers to Silchar, while others were rescued in the Badarpur and Silchar areas.
