India and China have been working on “mutual disengagement” and have made positive progress, but the “threat” is very high, Army Chief General Naravane told reporters today. Today, the two countries also held the 14th round of commander-level talks.
“The 14th round of Regiment Commander-level talks is underway, and I hope you will see further developments in the coming days. But while there has been partial disengagement, the threat has not diminished,” General Narawane told reporters at Jianjun.com on the occasion of the festival.
The Army Chief of Staff said there must be disengagement from the friction zone and then we can consider de-escalation.
The Army chief said India’s response to China’s attempts to unilaterally alter the status quo along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) was “very forceful”.
On the issue of China’s construction of villages in the Upper Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh, which was first reported by NDTV, General Naravane said, “The MEA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) has fully clarified our position. This is because LAC It’s not about demarcation anymore, there are different perceptions. Whenever it comes to border issues, they must be resolved once and for all. As far as we are concerned, our borders are fine, and there is no question that any status quo that exists today will be changed by force.”
