Military commanders from Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh participated in the final ceremony of India’s first Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat, who was killed in a helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu two days ago.
According to reports, the defense adviser and naval adviser of the Pakistan High Commission also paid their final tribute to General Rawat at his residence.
Senior military officers from neighboring countries participating in the CDS final journey include General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defense Staff and Commander of the Sri Lanka Army; Brigadier General Dorje Rinchen, Deputy Chief Operations Officer of the Royal Bhutan Army; Suprobal Janasewashree Lt General Bal Krishna Karki, Chief of Staff of the Nepal Army; and Bangladesh Lieutenant General Waker-UZ-Zaman, Chief of Staff of the National Armed Forces Division.
An ANI report stated that Sri Lanka’s former Chief of Defense Staff and Admiral Ravindra Chandrasiri Wijegunaratne (retired) also participated in the final ceremony. He is a classmate of General Lavat of the National Defense Academy and a dear friend. The final ceremony will be held at the Burlar Square Crematorium in Delhi State. On Wednesday, an Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopter crashed near Kunor in Tamil Nadu, killing General Rawat, his wife Madurika and 11 other soldiers.
Earlier in the day, political leaders, senior ministers, three military leaders, clergy and special envoys from various fields paid tribute to CDS at his residence in Delhi.
His daughters Kritika and Tarini and grandson also paid their last respects.
