Heavy selling pressure continued for the third straight session on Thursday, as bears maintained control of Dalal Street on Jan. 20 as all sectors except metals corrected amid a persistent sell-off in quarterly earnings and FIIs.
The BSE Sensex fell more than 600 points to settle below 59,500 and the Nifty50 fell more than 180 points to 17,757, while the broader market outperformed the benchmark with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100 down 0.16% and 0.05% respectively.
Stocks in focus included Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company, the top gainer in the futures and options space, which rose 6.05 points to Rs 649.15, and Bharat Dynamics, which hit an all-time high of Rs 473.40, before closing 5.89 percent higher at Rs 461.15. Minda Corporation touched a fresh 52-week high of Rs 214 before closing at Rs 207.5 with a gain of 4.53%.
