ABVP, JNUSU and SFI claim AVBP members assaulted residents of Kaveri Hostel mess over the cooking of chicken. Left groups staged a sit-in outside Vasant Kunj police station demanding to meet Manoj C. Abhishekaran, convener of ABVP.

AVBP members allegedly assaulted members of the mess committee for preparing non-vegetarian food for Ram Navmi dinner. The mess committee had decided on a pre-decided mess menu, but ABVP students objected to chicken being served as part of the dinner menu.

He said they were collecting meat from a vendor when some ABVP members objected to it. Rohit Kumar said no member of the outfit was involved. He said the group was only standing in solidarity with the students who were performing the prayers.

The mess committee was asked to change the dinner menu, which excluded non-vegetarian food items for students who choose to eat what they want. The menu for April 10 was pre-decided by the committee through hostel general body meetings, they said in a letter to the dean.
