The Special Investigation Team of the Uttar Pradesh Police is investigating the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, which resulted in the death of 8 people in the anti-agricultural law protest, and has submitted a 5,000-page fee form to the local court.
Earlier this morning, the police placed thousands of pages of indictment in a large box secured with two locks and sent it to the court of the Chief Justice of Rajmbur Town.
“Yes, the indictment has been filed,” Senior Public Prosecutor SP Yadav told reporters in Rahimpur.
In October last year, Ashish Mishra, the imprisoned son of Union Minister Ajay Mishra, was the main defendant in the murder of four farmers and a journalist in Rahimpur Kheri. A total of eight people were killed.
If the court accepts the charges, the trial of the case will begin on the date appointed by the court.
Four farmers and a journalist were reportedly knocked down by an SUV driven by Ashish Mishra. Violence broke out. Three other people including two Bharatiya Janata Party workers were killed.
Videos on social media that shocked the country and sparked outrage showed an SUV running over farmers at full speed.
UP police filed the first information report or FIR the next day, listing Ashish Mishra and 12 others as murder charges, but it took them a week and the intervention of the Supreme Court to arrest the son of the Federal Minister.
“The fee schedule has been submitted, but when we submitted the FIR, we also mentioned Ajay Mishra Teni in the complaint. But his name was not included in the FIR. We have submitted a statement to SIT including his name, but it It didn’t happen. We don’t feel that a proper investigation took place. The Thar SUV was in the name of the minister, but he was not named. We may have to go to court to request a proper investigation. We are not satisfied with the investigation,” said Mohd, Oman, farmer Lawyer.
Last month, SIT told the designated district court that the killing of farmers and reporters was a “planned conspiracy” with the intention of murder, not death due to negligence.
The charges against Ashish Mishra and others for reckless driving should be amended. The police team investigating the case wrote to the judge, adding that the charges of attempted murder and intentional injury should be added.
The Lakhimpur police filed two FIR applications-one was submitted by the family of the deceased who listed Ashish Mishra as the main defendant; the other was the attack on an unnamed farmer by Sumit Jaiswal, a BJP worker in Lakhimpur. Mr. Jaiswal accused farmers of inciting violence. In the viral video, someone saw Mr. Jaiswal running away from a SUV that hit a farmer. He was later arrested as a co-defendant in the case related to Ashish Mishra.
