The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) caucus committee held another marathon meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss seat sharing with allies in Uttar Pradesh’s parliamentary elections.
The meeting, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, was held at the BJP headquarters. It lasted 14 hours and ended at 1.35am on Thursday. The core committee held its first meeting on Tuesday and lasted 10 hours.
Leaders in attendance also identified candidates for 172 seats that will be voted on in the first three stages of the UP poll, ANI reported. The names will be discussed at Thursday’s meeting of the BJP’s Central Election Commission (CEC), which will also be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, before the official announcement, according to the news agency.
Party staff with knowledge of the matter said the constituency discussed at Wednesday’s meeting included Ayodhya, from which the name of Chief Minister Yogi Adianat had been raised.
