UP Polls: Will the Exodus of Leaders Hurt the BJP or Can It Still Count on Its Caste Arithmetic?

Three Uttar Pradesh ministers and 11 MLAs have quit the BJP. Most of them are leaders of the “Other Backward Classes” (OBC). Former minister Swami Prasad Maurya is said to have a good grasp of Maurya, Kushwaha, Shakya and Saini’s votes in the state. Another minister who resigned from the BJP was Dara Singh Chauhan. He is from the backward Loya-Johan caste. The third is Dharam Singh Saini, the leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party, who joined the BJP in 2016 along with Swami Prasad Maurya. They are all now complaining about the BJP ignoring the OBC, Dalit farmers, youth and other dispossessed parts after serving a full five years.

They are all party members and change teams before the election. Maurya, the OBC face of the BSP, joined the BJP in 2016 ahead of parliamentary elections. He allegedly left the BSP and BJP because his son and daughter could not get votes. Mayawati had said in 2016 that the seats they lobbied were denied tickets, and the BJP could not accommodate Maurya’s son this time. The political ships they jumped on could be seen as more political opportunism. The appeal of this party jumper is limited. They will not be big canvassers across castes in decisive elections like Parliament or Parliament, a fact that will be explained later in this article.

But on the other hand, the main factor is the social restructuring of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, and these party-hopping networks are hard to disturb.
