UP STF rescued birds of endangered species, two arrested

On World Sparrow Day, the UP police special task force rescued endangered species of birds. Parrots and munia were rescued in a joint operation with wild life crime control bureau. The rescued birds were taken from Nakkhas birds’ market in Lucknow on Sunday.

As many as 206 parrots and 18 munia birds smuggled from Punjab were rescued at around 8 am in Ludhiana, police said. They said that two people who were involved have been arrested and booked under different sections of the Wild Life Conservation Act-1972.

Police raid was conducted in the Nakkhas birds’ market after getting tip off about the movement of Shahnawaz from Punjab. He was going to hand over the endangered species of caged birds to Rajpati, a resident of Lucknow. The rescued birds have been handed over to forest officials concerned for further proceedings.
