Addressing the audience today, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said that the use of waste material for road construction is very important. He was speaking at the virtual MoU signing ceremony between IIT (BHU) Varanasi and GR Infraprojects Ltd. to promote industry-academic collaborative research in pavement materials and construction.
Encouraging the use of waste materials for construction of roads and highways, the Minister said, “This is probably the first of its kind MoU signed by the private sector and an IIT in India.”
Highlighting the issues including air pollution, noise pollution, water pollution in India, Gadkari said that the waste material can be segregated from metal, plastic, and organic waste and used for road construction. “The problem is with the mindset,” he challenged.
