Vikram, directed by Kamal Haasan, has had a near-perfect start at the box office. The film, which was released amid high expectations, has lived up to the hype, grossing more than $150 million in its first weekend worldwide. According to trade sources, the film is shaping up to be Kamal Haasan’s biggest box office hit. The film is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.

On Monday, industry watcher Sreedhar Pillai revealed on Twitter that Vikram has amassed over 150 crore in just three days. “#Vikram has turned out to be a universal hit with terrific WOM,” he tweeted. In its opening weekend, the @ikamalhaasan action extravaganza directed by @Dir Lokesh grossed over $150 million worldwide, with India accounting for over $100 million. “Kollywood’s (sic) biggest post-pandemic hit.”

Kamal Haasan reprises his role from the 1986 film of the same name in the Tamil film, which was dubbed and released in Telugu, Hindi, and Malayalam. He reappears as former Black Squad agent Vikram, who used to work for the Indian government. Fahadh Faasil portrays the current squad leader, while Vijay Sethupathi portrays a drug lord.

The Hindi version of the film, on the other hand, has underperformed. According to trade analysts, the Hindi-dubbed version of the film, titled Vikram Hitlist, has only made $2 million in its first three days. While it is the highest number for a Tamil film’s Hindi version this year, it trails other recent south blockbusters such as RRR.

Vikram, in which Suriya makes a cameo appearance, sets the stage for a potential franchise. Suriya could play the antagonist in Karthi’s Kaithi 2 and the next instalment of the Vikram series, based on some key scenes in the film.

If everything goes according to plan, the third instalment in the Vikram franchise will begin filming next year. Lokesh will finish his next film with Vijay before then. He’s also working on Kaithi 2 with Karthi.
