Equipment maker Volvo has launched its biggest excavators ever – the EC530E and EC550E…
When paired with larger buckets, the EC530E and EC550E are near-matched to fill articulated hollers in the 30- to 40-ton class, allowing fewer passes to load them and reduced cycle times. demand is made.
The specs are often the same on both machines. The primary difference is in the chassis. The EC550e undercarriage has a longer, wider lower frame (with an overall width of 12 ft 2 in, removed, and is 13 ft 9 in tall) giving it additional stability when operating with heavy loads.
For ease of loading and transport, the EC530e shares the same 10-ft, 10-width as Volvo’s 48-ton EC480e. The upshot is an EC530E with a lift capacity of 22,884 lb, while the wider and larger EC550E increases to 29,674 lb at altitude.
There’s also a slight difference in digging depth, with the more compact EC530E dropping to 25 feet 8 inches and the EC550E down to 25 feet 3 inches. Both machines have the same 40-foot reach height.
Volvo indicates a 25% increase in fuel productivity from excavators’ electro-hydraulic independent metering valve technology (IMVT). This keeps engine speed low while maintaining hydraulic power, which provides more precise operation and efficiency than mechanically coupled hydraulic systems.
