Rishabh Pant has often come under fire for his irresponsible batting, and in the third and final ODI against South Africa in Cape Town, India lost by four points. The goalkeeper batsman, batting at a crucial stage in 288 chases, was dismissed by a golden duck to allow South Africa to climb back into the game.
Trying to find big hits from the start, Pant fell into deep cover on the first delivery he faced, and it didn’t go well with fans. Former India captain Virat Kohli, who was present at the other end, was also unhappy with Pant’s decision. As Pant walked back to the pavilion, Kohli said nothing but kept his eyes on the 24-year-old, who threw away his wicket and hit an unnecessary ball.
The incident occurred in the 23rd round of a bat by Andile Phehlukwayo. Pant’s dismissal came after India also lost a set batsman Shikhar Dhawan. Dhawan (61 of 73) added 98 for the second wicket with the former India captain.
Keshav Maharaj also removed Kohli in 65 of 84 deliveries shortly after the incident. The mid-range, consisting of Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer, also lacked firepower, and were dismissed on the 26th and 34th respectively.
Deepak Chahar had some fights in the closing stages, hitting 34 overs 54 as India went all out for 283 overs in 49.2 overs.
