The World Health Organization (WHO) has stated that increased use of antibiotics during the Corona epidemic has increased the risk. The WHO said that the use of antibiotics is increasing the immunity of the bacteria and will result in more deaths.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanum Ghebreyesus said that the excessive use of antibiotics would have adverse effects not only during the Corona epidemic but also in the period after that.
The WHO has expressed concern over the overuse of antibiotics, saying that this trend may increase further during the coronavirus crisis. On Monday, Ghebreyesus said that there are increasing cases in which patients infected with bacteria are not being affected by the drugs they were earlier curing.
Ghebreyesus said the use of antibiotics during the Corona epidemic has increased. This will increase the number and deaths of the sick.
The WHO director-general said that only a few patients in Corona require antibiotics. He has appealed to doctors not to use antibiotic therapy on patients with mild symptoms of corona if there is no bacterial infection.
Tedros Adhanum Ghebreyesus described antimicrobial resistance as one of the biggest challenges of the moment. He has said that it is clear that the world is losing the ability to use the most important antimicrobial drugs.
He also said that antibiotics are being overused especially in some countries. Whereas in poor countries people are suffering and dying due to a lack of medicines.
