Colonel Ashutosh Sharma, commanding officer of 21-Rashtriya Rifles, who was martyred in an encounter with terrorists in Handwara (Jammu and Kashmir), was from Bulandshahr (UP). The Colonel, twice awarded by the Army Medal (Shaurya), is the father of a daughter (12). He was shot for the second time by hiding an army medal grenade from a terrorist who was shot to death to save the lives of his comrades.
