Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait has denied reports that the union is providing support to any party on the eve of parliamentary elections in five states.
Tikait, who arrived in Magh Mela on Tuesday for a three-day farmer “Chintan Shivir” at the parade ground, said: “We are not going to support anyone in this election.”
His statement came after BKU President Naresh Tikait called for support for the Rashtriya Lok Dal-Samajwadi party coalition in an upcoming parliamentary poll in Uttar Pradesh. However, hours after meeting BJP’s Sanjeev Balyan in Sisauli, the BKU chief retracted his statement and said he did not support anyone.
Rakesh Tikait said that in the farmers’ “Chintan Shivir”, they discussed farmers’ problems.
Rakesh Tikait said: “The three-day brainstorming session discussed matters related to farmers and organisations.”
BKU leaders also expressed disappointment at the government’s claims that it did not deliver on its promises. Sent to prison, MoS Home Ajay Kumar Mishra is still in his post. this is a big problem. There are problems with grain sourcing. These are the topics that have been discussed,” Rakesh Tikait said.
He also said the farmers’ 13-month “biggest victory” against the (now repealed) three farm laws was that political parties “consider them now”.
