Microsoft may be planning to start a side-by-side battle with Chromebooks, and its ammunition may include a low-cost Surface laptop that will run a new, possibly streamlined version of Windows 11, called Windows 11 SE. The SE suffix may represent a special edition, as it is in the case of iPhone SE.
According to a new report, the new Surface laptop will be a better alternative to the cheap Chromebook on the market. According to a report from Windows Central, a dilute version of Surface may be called Surface Laptop SE, which may be suitable for education. This laptop may have an 11.6-inch display with a resolution of 1366×768. It may use Intel N1420 Celeron processor, built-in up to 8GB RAM. This makes sense, because Microsoft is targeting K-12 students as the target audience for this laptop.
This is why the laptop is equipped with a USB-A and a USB-C port. According to reports, the core of Surface Laptop SE will be Windows SE. Microsoft has used the “SE” nickname for some previous versions of Windows, such as Windows 98 SE. However, Windows 11 SE is unlikely to represent what Windows 98 SE did, which is the second edition. On the contrary, it is expected that Windows 11 SE will be more like the S version of Windows 10.
The new software version will provide power for low-cost laptops and is designed to cater to the recent booming market for Chromebooks.
