Explosion In Beirut Killed More Than 70 People, 3700 People Injured

In Lebanon’s capital, Beirut, two major explosions occurred on Tuesday in which a large part of the port and several buildings were damaged. It killed more than 70 people and injured 3700 people. Lebanese Prime Minister Hasan Diab has said that the explosion was caused by 2750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate. The explosion was so fast that there was a fire all around, cars overturned and windows and doors of the houses were broken.

Lebanon’s chief of general security Abbas Ibrahim said the blast may have been caused by excessive explosive material, which was seized from a ship some time ago and kept at port. Local television channel LBC said the material was sodium nitrate, and now the Lebanese PM is saying the same thing.

Officials said that even after several hours of the blast, ambulances were sending the injured to the hospital. Army helicopters are helping to extinguish the fire at the port. The explosion caught fire, cars overturned and windows and door panes broke.

It has been reported that two such blasts have taken place here, one in the Port area and one inside the city. The explosions were so strong that almost all the entire city buildings were damaged. The smoke has entered the streets of the city. The question of security has also been raised due to the two blasts after the interval of about 15 minutes.
