Samajwadi Party chairman Akhilesh Yadav released the party’s manifesto for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections on Tuesday. This is called “Samajwadi Vachan Patra” and the slogan is “satya vachan, atoot vaada” (word of honor, unbroken commitment).
“I remember in 2012 when the SP issued the manifesto, when we formed the government, we held meetings of all ministries on various promises and delivered on all of them,” Yadav told a news conference. With ‘satya vachan, atoot vaada’, we will take this document with us as our manifesto for 2022.”
In four years, by 2025, all farmers will be “debt free” and there will be a “krin mukti” law that will benefit most poor farmers, Yadav said.
The 88-page manifesto promises minimum support prices (MSPs) for all crops, in addition to ensuring payments to sugarcane farmers within 15 days. “If needed, a corpus will be built for this,” Yadav said.
“All farmers will receive free irrigation electricity, interest-free loans, insurance and pension arrangements,” he added.
The SP chief said the Urban Employment Guarantee Act will be developed under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). The former chief minister said government jobs, including the police force, would remain 33 per cent female.
The manifesto also promises free education for girls from primary school to post-graduation. Also, the ‘Kanya Vidhya Dhan’ scheme will be launched again, through which girls who pass the 12th board exam will receive a one-off Rs 36,000. It also pledged to provide a laptop to all students who clear Class 12 boards.
Yadav said the “Samajwadi Pension” under which the elderly, poor women and households in the below poverty line (BPL) category will receive Rs 18,000 per annum. “This will benefit nearly 10 million families,” he said.
In addition, the manifesto said that Samajwadi canteens and “kirana” (grocery) stores will be established, and poor laborers, masons and the destitute will receive rations and other necessities at discounted prices. These canteens will be serving ‘Samajwadi Thali’ at Rs 10. “The purpose of this program is to end hunger in the state,” said the SP president.
The declaration added that a helpline for the state’s migrant workers, the “1890 Mazdoor Power Line,” will be opened.
