In SP manifesto for UP, Akhilesh pledges to make all farmers debt-free by 2025

Samajwadi Party chairman Akhilesh Yadav released the party’s manifesto for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections on Tuesday. This is called “Samajwadi Vachan Patra” and the slogan is “satya vachan, atoot vaada” (word of honor, unbroken commitment).

“All farmers will receive free irrigation electricity, interest-free loans, insurance and pension arrangements,” he added.

The SP chief said the Urban Employment Guarantee Act will be developed under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). The former chief minister said government jobs, including the police force, would remain 33 per cent female.

The manifesto also promises free education for girls from primary school to post-graduation. Also, the ‘Kanya Vidhya Dhan’ scheme will be launched again, through which girls who pass the 12th board exam will receive a one-off Rs 36,000. It also pledged to provide a laptop to all students who clear Class 12 boards.

Yadav said the “Samajwadi Pension” under which the elderly, poor women and households in the below poverty line (BPL) category will receive Rs 18,000 per annum. “This will benefit nearly 10 million families,” he said.

In addition, the manifesto said that Samajwadi canteens and “kirana” (grocery) stores will be established, and poor laborers, masons and the destitute will receive rations and other necessities at discounted prices. These canteens will be serving ‘Samajwadi Thali’ at Rs 10. “The purpose of this program is to end hunger in the state,” said the SP president.
