“Putting Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo in a scene together is wonderful and explosive,” Cretton shared. “It becomes surprisingly intimate. They are two top-tier actors, and I had no idea that when you film the Hulk, you are also filming Mark and Tom.”

Rather than depending solely on CGI action, Cretton gave Holland and Ruffalo the freedom to improvise performance beats, lending their desperate struggle a grounded, agonising emotional depth.

Holland emphasised the importance of imagination and effort on set when portraying the dread of fighting the Hulk.”It’s a really strange experience,” Holland said while explaining the gruelling filming process. “I remember standing on an apple box while Mark held this gigantic Hulk hand, and I would pretend it was choking me.”

Holland admitted that looking into a set mirror threatened to break the illusion. However, hearing Ruffalo deliver the ferocious Hulk language live forced him to succumb to the moment, trusting that the process would create genuine dread.
