Under the banner of Karnataka State Road Transport Employees League, Bangalore Mahanagar Transport Corporation (BMTC), Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC), and North Eastern Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC) workers, road It has called for an indefinite strike from Wednesday citing the failure of the state government to implement the pay system under the 6th Pay Commission for Transport Corporation workers. • Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa appealed to the employees of the Road Transport Corporation not to go on strike. “We have fulfilled eight of your (workers’) nine demands. We have to work together for the welfare of the people. Abandon the strike and cooperate with the administration, without giving the government room to take stern measures.

• The Government of Karnataka has warned of strict action against workers for not adhering to the Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19) restrictions. “There are Covid-19 restrictions in place and a notification has already been issued under the Disaster Management Act, which states that people gather in groups. If it is violated, action will be taken under the Act, IPC, Police Act. “Chief Secretary of State Kumar said. Kumar said, “Their demand to implement the Sixth Pay Commission report and pay equal to government employees cannot be accepted.”

• With an aim to reduce inconvenience to the general public, the State Government has made an alternative arrangement of transport by rope-way among private operators. The government has also deployed more trains at places like Kalaburagi, Belagavi, Hubli, Mysuru.

• The government has also said that if they take advantage of the transport strike, they charge higher fares, strict action will be taken against autos and cabs. Keeping the same in mind, the government has issued a notification fixing the cab and bus fare.

• According to the news agency ANI, the state government has allowed the state road transport corporation to run private buses and school buses for transportation.
