Tata Steel sets up 2 mtpa coal plants under the Jharia division
Tata Steel has established a coal preparation plant with a capacity of two million tons per year (MTPA) in Jamadoba under its Jharia division.
This 2 MTPA charcoal preparation plant was the oldest operating washing machine in Asia since 1952 and has now grown into one of the most modern washing machines in the world.
This plant is the first laundry facility in India to have a 100% dehydration facility built within the plant itself.
This is said to be a significant improvement on the traditional setup and eliminates the need for dry mist systems, tailings ponds, and automatic sprinklers.
“Introducing the right technology is the key to underground mining success. At Tata Steel, we leverage our capabilities for innovation, technology leadership with a focus on safety and sustainability to create long-term value” Tata Steel DB Vice President of Raw Materials Sundar Raman told Business Standard.
He said the beneficiary plant would facilitate coal production at a competitive price and focus on productivity, safety, and environmental issues.
The plant also has a massive battery backup UPS that provides an uninterrupted power supply to the 450 horsepower mine fan. It automatically disconnects from the DVC when there is a power failure. This keeps you running for 40 minutes while giving you plenty of time for power restoration and captive supply switching.
