Health Ministry rushes expert teams to 9 states and UTs amid surge in dengue cases

The government announced today that the Federal Ministry of Health has rushed high-level expert teams to nine states and federal territories with a high number of dengue fever cases. The expert team will assist the states and federal territories in adopting public health measures to effectively control and manage the spread of diseases. On Monday, Federal Minister of Health Mansukh Mandaviya reviewed the dengue fever situation in Delhi, which witnessed a surge in cases in October, and instructed the Minister of Health to deploy a team of experts to help control the situation.

Experts from the National Vector-borne Disease Control Plan, the National Center for Disease Control and regional offices have been included in the team. “On-site measures such as hot spot identification, atomization and timely treatment will be taken to curb the disease,” Mandavia wrote on Twitter after the review meeting. “The center has also sent a team of experts to countries where dengue fever cases have increased.” The states and federal territories where the expert group has been deployed are Kerala, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, and Delhi .

The Federal Ministry of Health stated that 15 states and federal territories reported the most cases this year, accounting for 86% of the total number of dengue cases in India as of October 31. A statement from the Joint Ministry of Health stated that the total number of dengue fever cases nationwide is 116,991. So far this year, Delhi has reported 1,530 cases of dengue fever. PTI cited official data and reported that nearly 1,200 cases were recorded in October alone, the highest month in four years.

Last week, the Delhi government issued a directive allowing state-owned hospitals to use one-third of the beds reserved for Covid-19 patients for diagnosis of dengue, chikungunya and malaria patients. Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain stated that the decision was based on the decline in Covid-19 cases in the national capital. He added that these beds will be completely separated from the Covid-19 patients of different staff involved in the treatment to reduce the possibility of spreading the Covid-19 virus.

In the face of a surge in cases, the three civic agencies in the capital have stepped up atomization and spraying operations within their respective jurisdictions. Dengue fever cases surged from July to November. The larvae of dengue mosquitoes reproduce in clear stagnant water.
