Driverless train to begin on Delhi Metro’s Pink Line from today

Driverless trains on the 57-kilometre Pink Line of the Delhi Metro will start operations on Thursday. Federal Minister of Urban Affairs Hadip Singh Puri and Delhi Minister of Transport Kailash Gallot will mark the driverless train via a video conference at 11.30am.

The Delhi Metro Corporation (DMRC) said in a tweet on Wednesday: “The driverless train on the Delhi Metro Pink Line (Parliament Park to Shiv Vihar) will be launched via video conference at 11:30 am on Thursday, November 25, 2021.

This is the second train facility of its kind to be opened on the Delhi Metro. Last year, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi (Narendra Modi) launched the country’s first driverless train on the Magenta line, and launched a national transportation card on the Airport Express Line.

The Prime Minister also stated that by 2025, subway services will be expanded to more than 25 cities.

Last year, DMRC officials stated that driverless trains on the Pink Line will start in mid-2021. However, due to the ongoing coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, subway services were affected, so it was postponed.

The pink line was put into use in 2019. By August of this year, after the opening of the missing section between Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 and Trilokpuri Sanjay Lake station, it became the longest operating corridor in the Delhi Metro network.

At present, the Delhi Metro has expanded to nearly 392 kilometers and has 286 stations, including the Noida-Greater Noida Metro Corridor and the Gurgram Express Metro.
