Parliamentary delegation from Vietnam calls on President Ram Nath Kovind
On Sunday, on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries and the upcoming 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, President Ram Nath Kovinde met with a Vietnamese parliamentary delegation led by the Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue.
“Our people cherish the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and Chairman Ho Chi Minh. Today, our bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership covers a wide range of areas-from political contacts to trade and investment relations, energy cooperation, development partnerships, defense and security cooperation. And civil relations,” Rashtrapati Bhavan said in a statement.
President Kovind pointed out that despite the disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, economic exchanges between India and Vietnam have remained active. The statement added: “He is also pleased to note that the defense partnership has been steadily growing…the defense cooperation between the two countries will contribute to peace, security and prosperity in the region.”
The president also stated that the two men’s coordinated efforts at the United Nations and other international organizations “sound for most developing countries.” He further added that “India and Vietnam have been cooperating with ASEAN to contribute to building a free, open, peaceful, prosperous, inclusive, and rule-based Indo-Pacific region governed by international law.” The virtual world was held last year. At the summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi described Vietnam as “an important pillar of India’s eastward policy and an important ally of our Indo-Pacific vision.” He also called the relationship between the two countries “long-term and strategic.”
