‘PM Modi has apologised to farmers, but…’: Rahul Gandhi over Lakhimpur Kheri
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi lashed out at the center on Tuesday over the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, which resulted in the deaths of eight people, and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had apologized to farmers but did not fire Federal Minister Aja. Yi Kumar Mishra.
Rahul Gandhi told reporters on Tuesday: “The opposition raised the Rahimpur incident again. A minister’s son killed a farmer and the report said it was a conspiracy, not an isolated incident. PM Modi did nothing about it. Matter. You (Modi) apologize to the farmers, but don’t dismiss the minister.”
Gandhi also lashed out at Federal Minister Mishra’s remarks that the killing of Rajmbur Keri farmers was “accidental.” “We will not let him go (Ajay Mishra); today or tomorrow, he will be sent to prison,” Gandhi also told reporters. Last week, the leader of the Congress moved a motion to adjourn the meeting in the People’s Chamber on the grounds that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) report stated that the Lakhimpur Kheri incident was a deliberate and pre-planned conspiracy. As the opposition party requested that the incident be discussed in Parliament, Rahul Gandhi claimed that the center did not want to proceed.
“They don’t allow us to speak. That’s why the House of Representatives was disrupted. Their ministers were involved (Lakhimpur Kheri incident)… So discussions should be allowed, but they don’t want to discuss them,” Gandhi told reporters on December 15.
Since the beginning of the parliamentary winter meeting, the opposition parties have targeted the center on this incident and demanded that the Union Minister Ajay Kumar Mishra be removed from the top post. They also requested that the SIT report be discussed.

On Tuesday, members of Congress filed Rajya Sabha’s notice of suspension of business and Lok Sabha’s notice of motion to adjourn the meeting.
On October 3, 8 people including 4 farmers were killed in Lakhimpur Kheri. Ashish, the son of Federal Minister Ajay Kumar Mishra, is the main defendant in the case and is still in prison.
Mishra repeatedly stated that his son Ashish was innocent and added evidence to prove his claim.
