Djokovic says agent mistakenly ticked wrong box on Australia travel declaration
Tennis star Novak Djokovic released a long statement on January 12, with details on why he was not in isolation after testing positive for COVID-19 in December and saying his agent made a mistake in filling out his Australian travel declaration.
The statement came as Australia’s Immigration Minister Alex Hawke was considering whether to cancel the world no.1 tennis player’s visa ahead of the Australian Open, which starts on January 17, amid controversy over whether he was eligible for a medical exemption from the country’s COVID-19 vaccine requirements.
“I want to emphasise that I have tried very hard to ensure the safety of everyone and my compliance with testing obligations,” Djokovic said in a statement on his Instagram account.
Amid questions about his Australian Travel Declaration where he had to state whether he had travelled within 14 days of coming to Australia, he said his agent accidentally ticked the wrong box on the form.
“On the issue of my travel declaration, this was submitted by my support team on my behalf — as I told immigration officials on my arrival — and my agent sincerely apologies for the administrative mistake in ticking the incorrect box about my previous travel before coming to Australia,” Djokovic said.

Gambhir acknowledges that his “sole regret in seven years of captaincy” is Suryakumar Yadav: “KKR failed to recognise his potential.”

He has established himself as a vital member of the batting lineup and is seen as the team’s future leader. But before he was let away, Suryakumar was a member of the Kolkata Knight Riders lineup from 2014 to 2017. When former captain Gautam Gambhir reflects on the two IPL titles won by KKR during that time, he named the star player from India his greatest regret.

In 2012, Suryakumar began his IPL career with the Mumbai Indians, appearing in just one match before being cut loose the following year. He was signed by KKR in 2014, and he won the championship in his first campaign there. The right-handed batter scored 608 runs in 54 games during his four-year tenure with the team, although the majority of those runs were scored as a lower middle order hitter.
In an interview with Sportskeeda on Monday, Gambhir said that his biggest regret as KKR captain is that he failed to recognise Suryakumar’s ability or his ideal batting position in the lineup.
Finding and showcasing the greatest potential is the responsibility of a leader. If there’s one thing I regret from my seven years as captain, it’s that neither I nor the squad were able to fully utilise Suryakumar Yadav. And combinations were the key to the cause. At No. 3, you may only play one person. As a leader, you also need to consider the other ten players in the starting lineup. Although he was just as excellent at No. 7, he would have been far more effective at No. 3, he said.
Gambhir went on to praise Suruyakumar for being a team player, citing the reason behind his appointment as the team’s vice-captain in 2015.
He was a team player as well. A good player may be anyone, but becoming a team player takes skill. Playing him at No. 6 or 7 or benching him, he was constantly grinning and eager to contribute to the squad. He went on, “That’s why we named him vice captain.”
