Al Qaeda affiliate’s claim of Ghazipur Mandi bomb scare bogus: Delhi police
Delhi police said on Monday that they had found the terror group Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, an al-Qaeda-affiliated Islamist militant group, and that claims about the Ghazipur Mandi bomb scare were false.
Senior officials from the Delhi Police Counter Terrorism Squad Task Force said they were still investigating whether the group was responsible for the terror attack.
The entire market was emptied after a bag full of explosives was found from the Gazipur Flower Market at around 10.30am last Friday and the IED was dismantled by the National Security Guard (NSG).
On Monday, NSG confirmed that a mixture of RDX and ammonium nitrate was attached to a complex that caused the explosion. However, Delhi Police, who registered a case under the Bomb Act to investigate the incident, said they had not been zeroed in. “During social media monitoring, we received a letter from Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind claiming responsibility for the attempted attack. The group is relatively new. We have not found any real source of this note so far,” a senior police officer said.
The letter circulating on social media also mentioned that the device did not explode due to some technical error. But that doesn’t mean the same thing will happen even next time, it said.
Police said it may have been an attempt to mislead the investigation.
