Putin hails Russia’s ‘stabilising role’ before meeting with Xi

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia and China were playing an “important stabilizing role” in international politics ahead of their meeting with Xi in Beijing this week.

Putin, who is on his way to the Chinese capital for the Winter Olympics, said discussing “relevant international topics” would be a key part of the visit, appearing to be a reference to the current tensions in Ukraine. He made the comments in a signed article published by China’s official Xinhua News Agency on Thursday.

“Foreign policy coordination between Russia and China is based on a close and consistent approach to global and regional problems,” Putin wrote. “Our nation plays an important stabilizing role in today’s challenging international environment, promoting a more democratic system of international relations, making it more equitable and inclusive.”

Putin’s call for stronger ties with China comes amid escalating tensions in Ukraine and warnings from U.S. intelligence that Russia is preparing for an invasion. The February 4 summit ahead of the Beijing Winter Olympics will be the first face-to-face talks between Putin and Xi in more than two years, as the two countries deepen political, military and economic ties to confront the West on the global stage.

The Russian leader was the highest-ranking guest at the Olympics, which have been largely boycotted by political leaders in Western democracies led by the United States over alleged human rights abuses in China’s western Xinjiang region. China has repeatedly denied the allegations and condemned the politicization of sports, which Putin agrees with.

“Sadly, attempts by some countries to politicize sports for self-interest have intensified recently,” Putin wrote in the Xinhua article. “This is fundamentally wrong and goes against the spirit and principles of the Olympic Charter.”

Jennifer Lopez ‘let go of her’ high-heeled ego while working with Ben Affleck

As Jennifer Lopez navigates her separation from Ben Affleck, she prioritizes her career, notably in the film Unstoppable.

Jennifer Lopez has “let go of her ego” to prioritise her career and personal growth as she navigates her separation from Ben Affleck.

The 55-year-old actress and singer, during an interview with Amazon/MGM, opened up about working on the upcoming film Unstoppable, a project she co-starred in while estranged from her husband.

“It was an honour to be a part of Anthony [Robles] and to play Judy,” Jennifer shared. “I approached the role with a complete lack of ego where you have to go in there and have so much respect for the person you are playing because it’s her story.”

“I disappeared, there was no Jennifer, no J. Lo. That person on the screen is just Judy. Luckily, I got to spend time with her and see who she was alone and as a mother.”

“Unstoppable is a very different movie than [Small Things Like These], but in a way it’s similarly rooted in the passion of really talented artists,” Ben told Entertainment Toninght just couple of weeks back. “Billy Goldenberg and Jennifer and Don Cheadle and Jharrel and Bobby Cannavale – all of whom were really passionate about this film.”

After reuniting and marrying in 2022, Jennifer filed for divorce in August 2024. Reports of marital struggles, including living separately, surfaced months before the filing.

“He’s focusing on his work and his kids now,” an insider told InTouch Weekly. “Ben already moved out … They’ll never stop loving each other, but she can’t control him, and he can’t change her.”
