Manish Tewari taunts Cong on exclusion from campaigners list, says not surprised
MP Manish Tewari has broken his silence on being excluded from a list of party star activists in Punjab polls.
Tewari, an incumbent MP from Anandpur Sahib, spoke on Twitter after he and other key members of the G-23 did not find space in the running list.
“I would be pleasantly surprised if it were the other way around. The reason is not a state secret either,” Tewari tweeted.
MPs are responding to news reports that prominent congressional leaders are not on the list of star contenders, as well as former TMC MP Abhijit Mukherjee.
Mukherjee tweeted: “Sad state of the Punjab Congress as they exclude a prominent senior Congress leader, Punjab MP & ex-minister Manish Twari Ji from the polls, Punjab’s star activist Off the list! Such narrow steps will never help Congress to win elections!”
The names of prominent G-23 leaders of Congress Ghulam Nabi Azad and Manish Tewari were missing after Congress released the list of star activists for the upcoming Punjab parliamentary elections earlier on Friday.
Also, MPs from many parties do not have a seat in it except for Ambika Soni and Pratap Singh Bajwa of Punjab.
The former speaker of Lok Sabha Meira Kumar was included to replace the Dalit Voting Bank. Meanwhile, the name of Delhi Mahira Congress President Amrita Dhawan is also surprising.
At the same time, the four big names of Haryana, Bhupinder Hooda, Randeep Surjewala, Deepender Hooda and Kumari Selja were also conceded.
But Tewari’s exclusion added fuel to the fire. About 40% of the state is Hindu. Earlier, Sunil Jakhar, another Hindu face of the party, expressed the pain of not being appointed as chief minister despite the support of 42 MLAs during the changing of the guard following the ouster of Captain Amarinder Singh in September last year, claiming it was because He is Hindu. However, Jahar has a place in the list of star activists in Punjab polls.
Punjab will vote on February 20. Counting will take place on March 10.
