IND vs WI: Virat Kohli to face tough Rohit Sharma challenge in quest for the ultimate T20I batting crown

The upcoming Indo-West Indies T20I series will witness a battle within a battle. While the two fallen T20I giants will face off in Kolkata in a three-match series starting on Wednesday, former India captain Virat Kohli will face a tough challenge from current captain Rohit Sharma in his quest for the ultimate T20I batting crown.

New Zealand’s Martin Guptill is currently the top runner in T20I history with 3,299 runs in 112 innings. Second-placed Kohli is just 72 points behind the New Zealand opener with 3,227 points in 95 T20I matches. Third-placed Rohit is 30 points behind Kohli and 102 points behind Guptil, who has amassed 3,197 points in 119 Indian matches.

With India having to play three T20Is against the West Indies, both Kohli and Rohit will have the chance to overtake Guptill for a huge world record.

The pair will also threaten Pakistan captain Babar Azam’s unique T20I world record. With 540 runs in 17 games, Babar holds the record for the most points scored against the West Indies in the T20Is. Rohit is second with 519 points from 15 matches, behind Babar with 22 points, while Kohli is second with 40 points in 12 games with West Indies Accumulated 501 points in the game.

Speaking of the series, India took part in the men’s 3-0 victory over Kieron Pollard’s Ahmedabad in the ODI series last week. Compounding the West Indies’ predicament, India has only lost one T20I match since 2018. India’s record is 9 wins from 10 meetings, its only defeat at Thiruvananthapuram in 2019.

If India can beat the West Indies 3-0, they will have a chance to become the ICC’s top-ranked T20I team, taking England from the top spot.
