After five days, India’s daily coronavirus tally fell below 2,000, with 1,675 new infections reported in the last 24 hours. Yesterday, India reported 2,022 new Covid cases. Over 14,700 new coronavirus cases were reported in India in the week ending May 22.
1. The number of active cases in India increased marginally, to 14,841. According to government data, active cases account for 0.03 percent of all cases.
2. According to health ministry data, 31 Covid-related deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 5,24,490 since the outbreak began.
3. According to data shared by the city’s health department, Delhi reported 268 new cases of coronavirus on Monday, with no deaths. The positivity rate was 2.69 percent. There are currently 1,819. active Covid cases in Delhi.
4. There were 208 new cases in Maharashtra on Monday. For the fifth day in a row, no new deaths have been reported in the state. According to Maha’s Health Minister Rajesh Tope, there is “no possibility of a fourth wave” of Covid-19 in the current situation.
5. In the last 24 hours, the southern state of Telangana has seen 27 cases. Bengal had 31 new cases, Tamil Nadu had 35, and Madhya Pradesh had 53. According to PTI, 5 new Covid-19 cases have been reported in J&K, 9 in Chhattisgarh, and 24 in Gujarat.
6. In the 75th session of the World Health Assembly, held at the global body’s Geneva headquarters, India raised concerns about the WHO report claiming 47.4 lakh Covid deaths in India. “India notes WHO’s recent exercise on all-cause excess mortality with dismay and concern,” Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
7. In India, over 192.52 crore Covid vaccine doses have been administered. Yesterday, over 13.7 lakh vaccine doses were administered. On Monday, over 57,000 vaccine precaution doses were administered to beneficiaries aged 18 to 59 years. On April 10, the country began administering the vaccines’ precaution doses to all beneficiaries over the age of 18 at private vaccination centres.

Bengali actor Partha Sarathi Deb, aged 68, passed away at a Kolkata hospital while undergoing treatment, according to his family.
Partha passed away at 11:50 pm on Friday night due to COPD-related ailments. He had been admitted to state-run M R Bangur hospital for the last month, and his condition worsened over the past week, and he was in the ICU.
Jeet honours Rupanjana with a lengthy message
Actor Jeet expressed sadness over the loss of colleague and WBAF committee member Partha Sarathi Deb on X, sharing a photo and offering condolences to his bereaved family and friends.
Actress Rupanjana Mitra announced the news on Facebook, writing a lengthy note in Bengali.
Partha, the vice president of the West Bengal Motion Picture Artists Forum, condoled the death of actor Amit Shah and announced that his body would be taken to Technician Studio, a familiar place for him.
The forum is deeply saddened by the actor’s passing and will keep his remains at Technician’s Studio on March 23, where his loved ones, teammates, and well-wishers can pay their last respects.
