Neetu Kapoor was unable to attend the awards ceremony because she was unable to do so without Rishi Kapoor: ‘I’m uncomfortable, and I need my son or husband.’

Neetu Kapoor, who lost her spouse Rishi Kapoor in April 2020, claimed that she is still finding it difficult to do things without him. Neetu admitted that she skipped a recent event where she was supposed to receive an award because she felt uncomfortable going alone.

At the age of 15, Neetu met Rishi. After appearing together in films such as Rafoo Chakkar, Khel Khel Mein, and Amar Akbar Anthony, the two married in 1980. After their marriage, Neetu stopped acting for a few years. Since then, she’s participated in four films, all of which featured Rishi: Love Aaj Kal (2009), Do Dooni Chaar (2010), Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012), and Besharam (2013). Since her leave from the industry, Neetu will be making a comeback with JugJugg Jeeyo, which she has characterised as the first film she hasn’t done as a favour to Rishi.

Neetu remarked in an interview with PTI that it was difficult for her to act without Rishi after such a long time. She also stated that she still feels the need to have the late actor, or their son Ranbir Kapoor, by her side whenever she leaves the house for a film event.

“The first day I went on set (JugJugg Jeeyo), I also shared a picture on Instagram saying it was the first time I was stepping outside the house without him,” she explained. I’m convinced he was blessing me and making my life easier. But, to be honest, refusing to act with him was difficult. It was difficult. Even now, when I’m called for an event, I’m unable to attend.

I can go to a shoot without him, but not to a film function. I was recently asked to a large event where they intended to present me with an award, but I am unable to attend without him. I’m hesitant to go alone. That confidence is still lacking in me.”

“I need my son or my husband around me,” Neetu remarked. Perhaps it will take some time for me to adjust to that aspect. As an actor, I can go to work because I have my crew, and they are with me, so I am comfortable. But not now, nor else.”

The film JugJugg Jeeyo, which also stars Anil Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, and Tisca Chopra, will be released in theatres on June 24. Viacom18 Studios and Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions are producing the film, which is directed by Raj Mehta.
