Upon finishing seeing his Natchathiram Nagargiradhu, Anurag Kashyap embraces PA Ranjith

This week marks the premiere of director Pa. Ranjith’s most recent Tamil film, Natchathiram Nagargiradhu. He planned a special showing of the movie for invited guests in Mumbai over the weekend. One of the guests, director Anurag Kashyap, was so moved by the movie that he hugged Ranjith after the showing. Social media has seen images from the screening.

In addition to Anurag Kashyap, Nandita Das and director Neeraj Ghaywan were present during the screening.

The sixth film directed by Ranjith is Natchathiram Nagargiradhu. This will be Ranjith’s first film addressing the concept of love and the politics that surround it, in contrast to his earlier works, which mostly addressed caste and its politics.

According to the film’s recently released trailer, this will be the first mainstream movie to discuss queer love.

Ranjith stated in an interview with The Hindu that he didn’t want to write a typical love narrative with a man and a woman when discussing the film. I then began investigating the love stories that exist all around us. Despite not being a film about queer love, it contains LGBT characters. Together, they produce a theatrical production that opposes caste and honour killing. There is a lot of dispute about nadaga Kadhal in Tamil Nadu (theatre play). That is covered in this movie, along with the politics of romantic love. The script was enjoyed by my pals who read it. However, they were unsure whether the audience would accept it.

Ranjith further disclosed that he had originally intended to release this film immediately following Rajinikanth’s Kabali. The reception he received for Kabali, however, encouraged him to start working on another movie (Kaala) with Rajinikanth right away.

The movie, which opens in theatres on Wednesday, features Dushara Vijayan, Kalidas Jayaram, and Kalaiarasan in significant parts.
